One suggestion is that if everyone declines then it picks randomly (or the table admin picks).

Perhaps an option should be given to players who have played the creature 3 times in a row to decline it if it selects that player to be the creature (assuming the game option is set to random). This would stop people always declining the role, but allow someone to not continually have to be the creature. I just had 4 games in a row (different groups of people) being randomly assigned the creature and I was a bit fed up of it by the end.

alternatively hard-code it so that, where the option exists, the alien is not given to someone who has played it twice in a row already if there is valid alternative person at the table

Perhaps also add an option to the initial list to choose (from among) the more experience(d) players. We started a game yesterday in which the monster was chosen randomly. Some in the group had played only once before (and a while ago), and inevitably, it chose one of them.

Perhaps have the option to limit the random selection to those with experience above 100, or choose the most experienced otherwise. (Obviously, this latter conflicts with some extent to the previous comment that someone doesn't want to keep playing the monster over and over again !)

I agree, choosing creature onto a newer player isn't good. As a hunted, we can communicate, and help them .. as the creature, they're kinda stuck flailing around, and it's not fun for anyone :)
I like the idea of a minimum experience .. and random choose somebody from that list. Option to pass should always be there as well.
