I will leave this report open for now in case others have the same problem, but it sounds like it's most likely a website-level bug rather than a bug in the implementation of Lost Cities, in which case there's nothing I can do about it. You might consider refiling this as a bug with the website rather than a bug with a particular game, in order for the report to appear in front of the website devs rather than this game's devs.

I also had a problem connecting even though my internet was working fine. Apps ect were working except the bgg and couldn't play
